The Republic of Chad is a landlocked country in north-central Africa, bordered by Libya to the north, Sudan to the east, the Central African Republic to the south, Cameroon and Nigeria to the southwest, and Niger to the west. The capital and largest city is N'Djamena.
Chad covers an area of approximately 1.284 million square kilometres, making it the fifth-largest country in Africa. The country has a population of over 17 million people and is home to more than 200 ethnic and linguistic groups. French and Arabic are the two official languages.
Chad gained independence from France on 11 August 1960. The country has significant natural resources including oil, uranium, and gold, and is working to develop its agricultural potential, infrastructure, and human capital.
Chad–Kenya Diplomatic Relations
The Republic of Chad and the Republic of Kenya established formal diplomatic relations in the years following both countries' independence. The two nations share membership in the African Union and cooperate on matters of regional security, trade, and development within the continent.
The Consulate of Chad in Nairobi was established to strengthen these ties and to serve the growing Chadian community in East Africa, as well as to promote Kenya as a gateway for Chadian engagement with the broader East African region.
